"Our new Drama Program has opened up a whole new dimension of experience for many of our Middle School students, and has become yet another wonderful medium through which our children can feel and powerfully express the awe and wonder of creation which we strive to
instill in them."
– Dr. Elliot Prager, Principal of The Moriah School
Professional Director Matt Okin (based in Englewood), Production Stage Manager Mandy Decker, and Teaching Artists Giselle D'Souza, Vanessa Altshuler, and Erel Pilo - all from Black Box Studios - led the 30+ Middle School kids in the Moriah Drama Program to their triumphant first collaboration, a production of Noah by Andre Obey. The shows on February 9 and 11 were completely sold-out, with over 150 people attending each performance.
Every performer - whether personifying an animal on the ark or portraying one of the humans who came along for the 'ride" - was on stage for almost all of the two-act play, which also featured additional material improvised and written by most of the cast. The set, lights, and sound were also student-created by members of the tech crew. In early June, the Moriah Drama Program will present a well-known Broadway musical. At Moriah, additional theater programs for the school's elementary-age kids are in the works.
